If you have a fishing pole that is still in good shape and the eyelets need to either be rewrapped or replaced, it is effortless to make your pole look brand new with a little time Plus, the process is relatively cheap to do. It does take time, but the effort and time are well worth it if your rod blank is a good one and still in good shape. Most tackle shops and some department stores carry all the things you’ll need to do this project.
Things you will need:
- Sandpaper #60 or #80
- High-quality nylon thread (whatever color you want to use)
- Small paint brush
How to to it Step-by-step:
Remove all the old eyelets by unthreading them from the pole.
Scrape any excess thread from the pole with a knife. Scrape the pole gently, though, just enough to remove the thread, but not hard enough to damage your pole.
Heat the tip of the pole with a lighter to soften the glue so that you can remove it.
Start at the top eyelet, and sand off all the old glue and varnish around each old eyelet until they are all smooth.
Use the glue to replace the rod tip, making sure it is straight.
Start wrapping the new eyelets onto your pole with high-quality cotton thread, making sure you pull each wrap snug. It is essential to use a high-quality thread nylon thread to prevent the thread from breaking. Cut any excess thread with a pair of scissors.
Use a small paintbrush to apply a coat of varnish on each eyelet as you finish wrapping. The varnish keeps the thread from unraveling. Coat each eyelet with at least three layers of varnish. Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours before you use the pole.
Enjoy the new look of your fishing pole.
